The first store opened as Airbase Carpet Mart and was located in New Castle, Delaware, in a quonset-hut adjacent to the New Castle Air Force Base. Sam started selling carpet and rugs at deep discounts by buying factory overstocks and remnants from dozens of mills at the same time when wall-to-wall carpeting was into its new trend. The result?
