The company's founder, Gus Kerasotes, opened a storefront nickelodeon in Springfield, Illinois in 1909. He enjoyed this new technology and Kerasotes Theatres was born. By the mid 1940's all four of Gus' sons had joined the company. Kerasotes Theatres had now expanded to eleven theatres. During the 1950's and 1960's the company embarked on an aggressive expansion program, opening its fiftieth theatre in 1967.
