Between 1923 and 1951, Ed Leedskalnin carved 1,100 tons of coral, and the result is this fascinating testament to human creativity. Pay a visit to an "unusual accomplishment" with this offer: $15 ($30 value) for admission for two adults This unique creation was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 Located on South Dixie Highway in Homestead; open daily A Place Like No Other Over the course of 28 years, Ed secretly built Coral Castle at night -- without any help from anyone. No one knows how he excavated, carved, and placed all the coral, but his creation has been compared to the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge. You'll see a hand-carved nine-ton gate, Polaris telescope, a sundial which measures the seasons, and much more -- there's truly no other place like this one. Coral Castle has continuous live tours, and you can also enjoy the onsite cafe. Coral Castle Museum's Website | Facebook

The castle, 25 miles south of Miami, remains one of America's unexplainable architectural marvels. No one's really sure how one man carved more than 1,000 tons of limestone using only homemade tools.

South Florida at its weirdest! Head to The Coral Castle and try to figure out how one man moved all these blocks of coral (weighing several tons each!) all by himself. It's an amazing day trip. -WV

Just amazing. Buy the book about Leedskalin and get the novel Cincinnatus. Haven't finished the novel yet but the first 75 pages are great.

Extremely interesting place! Don't just walk around on your own, though, or you'll be bored to tears. The tour guides are fantastic and really help the reality and magnitude of this guy's strange accomplishment/obsession come to life. Really makes you wonder how many brilliant people walk among us, ....
