The scoop: around these parts it's easy to find a sports bar, a bar with live shows, or a pla.. read morece to play darts. if you want all of that, plus beer pong, traditional irish music, pool, and a great list of beers on draft, however, dempsey's is the only address you need to know by heart. an east village favorite with sidewalk tables and interior space for every single one of your friends, dempsey's takes the irish pub concept and updates it with every kind of entertainment imaginable. looking for bar trivia, international sports, and a place to throw your next party? dempsey's not only has your back, they even have your beer battered onion rings. scout notes: dempsey's is one of my favorite escapes from the many ills plaguing other bars in the neighborhood: brusque bartenders, cramped seating, and crowded patios (to name a few). it's almost as if the expansive pub opened shop specifically to give the east village a friendly, accessible anchor, where the vibe is unpretentious and a good time is damn near guaranteed. whatever kind of night you're after, dempsey's is likely to make it happen. couples looking to soak up the autumn air will find plenty of outdoor space; solo drinkers can tuck in at the long bar and enjoy the game on a variety of plasmas (plus the company of the area's most charming bartenders). the highest calling may be to come with a crowd, though even on a buzzing weeknight, groups of friends can always find an accommodating nook in the barroom. the best thing about dempsey's is the way the pub's rotating event calendar keeps it from becoming the same old experience night after night. there's always a couple of games on, of course, but different evenings bring new sorts of entertainment: come on tuesdays at 8 p.m. for traditional irish music (as a bonus, all musicians are welcome to join in), or wednesdays at 7 p.m. for some of the city's most celebrated bar trivia. if you win, you can take a victory lap through the menu of pub food classics; lose, and you can drown your sorrows in a pitcher of beer. or vice versa, if you prefer dempsey's will make it happen either way. menu highlights: beer battered onion rings, $5 mac & cheese, $9 steak sandwich, $9.95 spicy homemade chicken wings, $7/$10 hamburger, $11 hours: monday sunday, 12 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
