Scout notes: i thought i'd been to enough mexican restaurants in my life to know what to expe.. read morect, but then i went to el paso mexican restaurant located south of the border (of dc) near the mt. vernon neighborhood of alexandria. with a large selection of both tex-mex favorites like fajitas and enchiladas, as well as authentic mexican dishes like chori pollo, at my disposal, i was having a tough time making a decision, but owner daniel lopez came to the rescue and recommended the super burrito supreme. "it's pretty huge," he warned, "but also really good." turns out, he was being a bit understated. more than huge, this burrito was monumental. no joke, it was the size of a large man's shoe and chock full of everything you could ever want (i chose beef, pico de gallo, sour cream, beans, rice and guacamole). and yes, it was delicious, so i was happy to enjoy this several-pound behemoth for lunch, dinner, late night snack and the next day's lunch, too. but i had to ask, "has anyone ever finished this in one sitting?" daniel answered, "my brother said someone once ate two." mind? exploded. menu highlights: fajitas tejanas, $14.99 enchiladas supreme, $9.25 super burrito supreme, $8.99 carne asada, $11.99 tortilla-encrusted tilapia, $12.99 sopapilla, $2.50 hours: monday - saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
