"By going to the Harvest Ball I realized what it takes to provide that service," says John Ferdinandi, president and CEO of Milano Restaurants International. 'It takes a lot of work, from employees and volunteers, to make the Hospital accomplish its mission." John is not only an avid supporter of Children's Hospital but also serves as the current chair of the Hospitals Foundation Board. By serving on the Board he became more aware of the operations of the Hospital and how many hurdles Children's has to meet to function. "It shows that there is a big need to raise money for the Hospital because it does not turn a child away, " says John. "The existence of this hospital depends on the philanthropy of the Valley." For about eight years, John has been supporting Children's. He believes local businesses should support the Hospital because it focuses on children, who are important to the future of our community. "The more the Valley grows, the better it is for business. Part of growth is having solid services attracting professionals to the area. It gives prestige to the area." John adds. "When you support the foundations of the Valley, it helps everybody." says John. His company, Milano Restaurants International - a regional restaurant management company and community business partner - owns, operates and franchises multiple restaurant concepts which include Me N Eds Pizzerias, Me-n-Ed's Slices. Me-n-Ed's Coney Island Grill, and Piazza del Pane. "One of our core values is to give back to the communities that we serve," John says about Milano Restaurants International. "A big part of our community support is in kid related entities. We thought Children's would be a good fit, it impacts our Valley incredibly. Every child gets the best care no matter what their background is." With that in mind, the "Help A Child" campaign was born. The campaign runs at Me-N-Ed's locations in Fresno and Tulare counties. Customers are asked to puchase a $1.00 ornament and all of the proceeds go to Children's Hospital. Aside from the "Help A Child" campaign, John and Milano Restaurants International support Children's by donating to the Harvest Ball, purchasing 600 newspapers during Kids Day, supporting the Guilds, and other Hospital activities. John urges other restaurants and local businesses to support Children's Hospital. "I used the hospital growing up as a kid," says John. "To me it's part of the fabric of our Valley."
