How He’s Making a Fitter New York

I have three locations below 14th St. where we’ve been helping people get in shape for over 20 years. We structure workouts based on the individual goals and objectives of each client, and we help them achieve those goals. I’ve also written a book called, Get Your Rear in Gear with some simple nutritional guidelines and plenty of exercises you can do at home or at the gym. It’s really a book to help people get off the couch and get in shape. It’s a great read, it’s easy to do, and it produces results because it’s the same way I personally train all of my clients.

What’s New

Right now, we’re training Lisa Loeb, for a reality show on the E! channel. We’re doing 8 weeks of shooting in the gym, so that’s been fun and exciting. And it may have something to do with that, but I was also voted the celebrity fitness trainer of the year by MSNBC. It’s definitely cool to get that kind of recognition, but I’m just trying to do what I do every day, which is personal training and helping my clients really get in shape. It’s just as exciting to help Lisa get her life and her body back in shape.

Something I’ve been working towards for a while is improving the standards of personal training. I mean, you really only have to pass a short test to call yourself a “Certified Personal Trainer.” So we’re launching a program where we’ll be the first company that’s licensed by the New York State Department of Education to certify personal trainers through our own intensive specialized method.

And I’m developing a software-driven product right now, called the Nutribowl, which is going to help people really keep tabs on their weight. It’s revolutionary. It’s going to change the way people think about nutrition, and how they track their calories, their carbohydrates, their iron, and their potassium every single day. It’s going to be a whole new way of looking at it.

How He Stays in Shape

I stay fit by lifting weights every single day, by running on the treadmill every single day, and training Ju Jitsu every single day. I’m motivated to do the training and the cardio because I compete in Ju Jitsu tournaments. I’m a goal-oriented person, so that’s what motivates me to keep training at a high level. If I have something that I’m working towards, then it’s easier for me to achieve it, and easier to do it at that high level of intensity. And the harder I train, the harder I work towards training other people. So If I fall off, and I’m not training as hard, and I’m not focusing on my own fitness—and you’ll find this with most trainers—once the intensity goes down, it really translates into the training your giving clients.

That’s why I make sure that my own workout stays as consistent as the ones I’m providing for my clients. I think that’s the key. That’s the formula for me. Every single time I walk in here, and every single time you come in here, you know you’re going to get a great workout.
