Hidden on 2nd avenue around the corner from St. Mark's Place, it's not surprising that a pierogi lover could pass by our Ukrainian National Home without realizing that the Ukrainian East Village Restaurant lies within, down a hallway you enter from the street. Our Ukrainian East Village Restaurant is as authentic as you get. We've been serving in the East Village for over 15 years, and your cravings for Eastern European cuisine is sure to be met.
Here are some comments from our past guests:
... the Ukrainian East Village weathers the storm of trendy overpriced interlopers that last a few months until the ubiquitous scaffolding goes up again for a year or so awaiting the advent of another architectural disaster. The UEV has been here since I moved to new York a half century ago and it's every bit as good as I remember it though tastefully updated in decor. You don't have to daub the mustard here: the hot pastrami sandwich on rye is perfectly prepared with just the right shmear of mustard already on it. For lunch the fried or boiled varenyky (pirogis) and blintzes are the summit of comfort food and the omelets are great. My favorites for entrees: roasted chicken, mushroom stuffed cabbage and kielbasa with potato and sauerkraut. Each dish is prepared in a leisurely fashion with the freshest ingredients, so the wait is well worth it. Enjoy a basket of varied breads and butter while waiting.
Oh yes! We have Tango on Friday nights!
