<img src="http://www.clubsuntanning.com/images/julie.jpg"> It was October, 1984 and I couldn’t let my roommate ‘get one up on me’ so I bought a tanning package from the Dothan Athletic Club; word-of-mouth has always been the best form of advertising! Upon my second or third session, I noticed my name in the appointment book…along with all the others! I was surprised at how many names I saw. My wheels started turning and I wondered just how much one of these beds cost? Well, while inside the tanning room, I noticed an 800 number on the bed; instinctively, I jotted it down. (‘Curious George’ wanted to know.) Once I arrived home, I called the number. There was no internet at the time. 'Big Bad Jim’, Forever Tan’s salesman, returned my call the following day and proceeded to shame me into meeting him - after all- he would be passing through Dothan, Alabama the next day. I, being twenty four years young at the time and of naïve mind, felt obligated to meet with him. Well, after three sales calls, Jim had sold me a ‘$7,200.00 Wolff tanning bed’ and I had nowhere to put it…yet! I called a friend who managed a hair salon in Dothan and we agreed to split the revenues ’50 / 50’. The tanning bed ‘took off’ as word of mouth spread and soon I was putting in beds on a 50/50 split for several other proprietors in the area. Five months later, we needed more tanning beds in Dothan so I decided to open up Dothan’s first tanning salon. The rest is history! By the end of 2008, Club Sun will operate 21 salons with over 350 units. Club Sun is blessed to be South Alabama’s and Northwest Florida’s largest tanning salon chain since 1984!
