Mario's Pizzeria is the leading pizza chain in Trinidad and Tobago. It started operations in 1972 at Valpark Shopping Plaza and has grown to eighteen outlets, plus a new store in Grenada. The chain is owned by Richard Hartford and is in partnership with Blimpie restaurants. The pizza is unique in that it uses a cheddar cheese from New Zealand rather than the traditional mozzarella. The restaurants also sell other food, such as french fries, hamburgers, chicken, and ice cream. The company advertises widely through television, radio, and newspapers. Following the closure of the Blimpie brand the company has since launched its own brand of sub style sandwiches called Boomers.
