About
For A Healthy Attitude The Mediterranean has long been a crossroads of many cultures and people. Like the region that inspires its cuisine, Pita Grill continues to reflect the intersection of different tastes and sensations - healthy California-style cooking and hints of Middle Eastern cuisine - all containing delicious, wholesome ingredients bought fresh from local green markets. Pita Grill began with one location on West 4th street in 1993. With a keen sense of entrepreneurial ingenuity, Founder and Executive Chef Bennett Orfaly was one of the pioneers in setting the trend of affordable, wholesome eating that remains all the rage in New York City. Fifteen years after that first restaurant opened, Pita Grill now boasts 10 locations in New York and New Jersey and is continuing to innovate with new menu items that will satisfy your palate and whittle your waistline. After living in California for several years, Orfaly was inspired to bring California’s craze of healthy, wholesome eating to New York City, while mixing it with foods from around the world. Pita Grill’s selection of appetizers is outstanding, whether starting off a healthy meal or sharing with a group of friends. California Hummus, made with verdant cilantro and fresh lime juice is a shining example of the Pita Grill m.o. of mixing flavors to make light, delicious food. Baked Falafel is the big news at Pita Grill– no deep-frying allowed. While other restaurants may offer a similar item, only Pita Grill can boast the use of chickpea flour instead of white. The healthier substitution makes for a tastier meal, enhancing the rich, nutty flavor of the chickpeas and maintaining a touch of sweetness. What goes perfectly with baked falafel? Baked Guilt Free Fries - made out of either sweet or regular potatoes and available exclusively at Pita Grill. The falafel and fries are cooked in a revolutionary, computerized, high-priced Rational Oven that is programmed to ensure that every meal comes out perfectly every time. The Baked Falafel and Guilt Free Fries are available at Pita Grill’s two newest locations in the Fashion District and Mid-town, with other locations following suit. The restaurant’s trademark salad, The Pita Grilled Salad, combines grilled, skinless chicken breasts and basil-rubbed eggplant, served over a fresh bed of mesclun greens and topped with sun-dried cranberries, feta cheese and lite roasted red pepper vinaigrette. Fattoush is a modern nod to a salad commonly found on dinner tables throughout the Mediterranean – tossed greens are complimented with fresh mint, lemon, citrus herbs and bits of toasted pita. Pita Grill’s bread is baked fresh daily and is available in plain, whole wheat and low-carb varieties. Heartier dishes make their way onto Pita Grill’s menu, with twists that won‘t ruin your diet. The Chicken Gyro is made from a skinless chicken Pita Grill’s signature Spicy Carrot Tahini or. The homemade Tahini, is infused with nutmeg, chili garlic sauce and carrot juice, which packs a healthful punch. California-Mexican accents reveal themselves in the Fish Tacos, made from blackened Tilapia, low-fat sour cream avocado spread and served with a mild pico de gallo. East meets West with the Sesame Ginger Rice Bowl, which combines charcoal grilled chicken strips, red cabbage, watercress and carrots with a sesame ginger vinaigrette and is served over brown rice. The sweet and spicy Steak and Vegetable Stir Fry is served over Basmati rice, adding a touch of Indian flavor to the already eclectic cuisine. Also adding a boost to the stellar menu are the, Agave Smoothies, using all natural yogurt, fresh fruit and sweetened with agave nectar. Scintillating flavors like Blueberry Blast and Strawberries and Cream will leave you feeling revived and refreshed. Other flavors are offered as well and new ones will be added each season. In addition to their menu, Pita Grill has been refining the aesthetics of their locations, such as the newest landmark location on 7th avenue and 27th street. The décor is hip and young, much like the cuisine. It’s only natural that, after experiencing great success in New York City, Pita Grill will now franchise and expand nationwide. More than just a restaurant, Pita Grill is healthy, high-end cuisine at fast-food prices. Pita Grill is open seven days a week, from 11am to 11pm.
