About
For more than fifty years, Original DiCarlo's Pizza has had a long and proud tradition of providing delicious and unique products. But the familys' interest in the food business got its start long before anyone on this side of the Atlantic even heard of the food that would become an American staple.... PIZZA! For years, the DiCarlo family owned and operated a grocery store and later, extended their endeavors into the bakery business, where their name became synonymous with delicious Italian bread. During these early years, Michael and Caroline DiCarlo and their children ran all facets of their business enterprises. Returning home from serving in World War II, the DiCarlo's oldest son, Primo, described a dish that was popular in Italy, consisting of dough, tomatoes and cheese, all baked together. He reported that it was considered to be a delicacy in Italy. Michael and Caroline’s third son, Galdo, born July 20, 1919, adapted the recipe and a family heirloom was created ...ORGINAL DICARLO'S FAMOUS PIZZA! in 1949, Galdo successfully brought the recipe to Wheeling, West Virginia. Soon it would spread throughout the Ohio Valley. Today, over fifty years and three generations later, the recipe is used, but now with the efficiency that only years of experience can offer. Many have tried to copy the recipe and even the process, but there is only one original, and the DiCarlo family still takes pride in every single slice that goes out their door. Over the years, new items have been added to the basic pizza menu: calzones, pepperoni rolls and subs. Each new item is held to the same strict standards of quality as the Original Pizza. These strict standards are rigorously employed by each franchisee so that the integrity of the DiCarlo name is upheld. In turn, the legacy of the DiCarlo name is an invaluable asset to any prospective business partner. Today Galdo's daughters run the family business. They are successfully taking the company into the future by honoring the traditions of the past. They still use the same secret family recipe that their father created. To them, it is a precious family heirloom to be treasured and handed down to the next generation of DiCarlos.
