A nominal one-time fee, still just $5, buys a membership card good for a lifetime and covers all family members living at home. Members show their card to enter one of our stores. We take a "deep discount" approach to merchandising brand name goods, striving to offer a wide selection of top quality merchandise at low everyday prices. Each store deals mainly in hard goods in departments such as pharmacy, photo/sound, housewares, sporting goods, automotive, hardware, health & beauty, toys, clothing/shoes, beer/food/wine and more. Even as we’ve grown over the years, we continue to keep our stores simple, bringing costs down and boosting savings for our members. We hope you’ll shop with us soon. A History of Saving You Money We’ve been bringing our members low prices for over 50 years. Bi-Mart was founded by a group of individuals who felt that the average working person deserved a better value for their hard earned dollars. At that time Fair Trade laws stated that merchandise had to be sold at or above the manufacturer's suggested retail price. How could we obey the law and still give customers a value? A membership concept proved to be the answer. By becoming members of Bi-Mart, our customers could purchase merchandise at a discounted price. In 1955, we opened our first store in Yakima, Washington, in the garage of one of the original founders. Open only a few hours a week at first, business continued to grow until the store moved to its present location on 5th Avenue. In 1962, Bi-Mart opened its second store at 18th & Chambers in Eugene, Oregon and shortly thereafter moved the corporate headquarters and distribution center to Eugene as well. Eugene continues to serve as our headquarters today. Since that time we’ve steadily opened stores throughout the Northwest. Today, we’ve grown to 72 stores in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Bi-Mart: A Community Partner We consider ourselves part of the communities we serve. As a community member, Bi-Mart donates to charitable organizations such as United Way, Red Cross, and the College Scholarship Fund and sponsors educational programs, cancer screenings, safety and health awareness programs, community, college and semipro sporting events, and many other community events throughout the Northwest. We’re proud to be able to support all these worthwhile organizations and clubs, and give back to our communities, members, and their families that have given so much to us. In addition, Bi-Mart employees are active in their communities... they serve as team coaches, United Way fund drive volunteers, they support area churches, scout troops, and local theaters. They participate in events that benefit charities. They donate their time, money, and enthusiasm to their children’s schools, teams, and clubs. They participate in the Big Brother and Big Sister Programs. They help clean up their neighborhood playgrounds and area beaches. All in all, Bi-Mart employees are a group of proud and involved citizens. We’re Here to Serve You We employ over 3000 employee/owners throughout the Bi-Mart chain of 72 stores, and pride ourselves on a quality workforce as well as our contribution to local economies. Bi-Mart employees participate in extensive customer service training. They pride themselves on their product knowledge and do their best to give advice and suggestions. In 2004, Bi-Mart was purchased by its employees, beginning a new era for Bi-Mart. Employee ownership renews our commitment to offer the best value and service possible. And, our Employee Stock Ownership Plan provides the opportunity for employees to share in the success of the company. Bi-Mart established the Bi-Mart Corporation Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to help employees save for retirement. The ESOP is designed to give each eligible employee participant a share in the ownership of the company through allocations of company stock. Plans for the Future Bi-Mart is continuing to expand to serve the needs of our members. Each year we are growing and opening new stores in numerous communities throughout the Northwest. In addition, we are actively adding new products to save you more and add greater convenience to your shopping choices.
