Lumber Liquidators began with a very humble start in 1993 when Tom Sullivan, a building contractor, began purchasing excess wood that other companies didn't need and reselling it from the back of a trucking firms yard in Stoughton, Massachusetts. This eventually led to the company finding their niche market in hardwood flooring in 1996. The first store opened on January 5, 1996 in West Roxbury, Massachusetts and sold 150 sq ft of floors that first day. Eight months later they opened a second store in Hartford, Connecticut and the increase continued ever since.
