Jalisco, Mexico seems far away to many. But thanks to Esaul Rodriguez, owner of Puerto Vallarta's, it can be found in Connecticut, U.S.A. Esaul came from a large farming family in a small but beautiful Mexican village-Union de Tula, in the state of Jalisco. Farming and ranching were among the only ways to make a living. Esaul wanted more. At 16 years old, speaking no English and with just six dollars in his pocket, he went to Seattle to work in his uncle's Mexican restaurant. He learned fast. Worked hard. And grew the skills necessary to be successful. He moved up from bus boy, to waiter, to cook-managing people, schedules, products, vendors, budgets, banks and brand-authentic Mexican dishes made from scratch. In 1991, at age 21, he opened his own Mexican restaurant in Oregon with his brother, Juan. He expected to save some money and move back to Mexico. He loved the culture and warmth of his birth country, but began to love this country, too. Determined to do even better, with everything on the line and a longing to bring the best of Mexico here, he came East to seek his fortune. He wanted to create a place where you could truly experience Mexican culture. Not only delicious, well-prepared foods and beverages made from scratch, but also the smells, tastes, sounds, colors, flavor and beauty of Mexico. In 1999, he opened his first restaurant in West Hartford. His freshly-made foods and authentic venue were unique to the area and competition for good Mexican food was limited. Before long, people were lining up to get in. Once that restaurant gained popularity, it was possible (and a smart idea) to open another in Connecticut. In 2001, Puerto Vallarta opened in Newington. In 2003, they opened in Middletown. Then in 2004, in Southington. And in 2006, in Avon. His hard work, a desire for more, and a passion for his homeland and love of the land of prosperity-the United States-made Esaul's dream come true. When you dine here your senses are transported to a place that's peaceful, genuine, hospitable and authentic. A place that moves you to relax, simplify and enjoy. And eat. A place like Union de Tula, only in the state of Connecticut. Just as Esaul wanted it to be. Our purpose is simply to provide great tasting, high quality Mexican food and beverages in a fun and friendly atmosphere, for people who crave a quality dining experience. Our Commitment to you... At Puerto Vallarta, you can relax with family and friends while enjoying the fun and flavors of old Mexico.
