Red Roof’s first inn opened in Columbus, Ohio. It was 1973 and room rates were just $8.50 a night..! It was founded by James R. Trueman, a Columbus builder and contractor (with a passion for driving race cars in his spare time.) He believed, like many of our guests, in simplicity and economy without giving up quality. He focused on the meaning of value — good, clean comfortable rooms, a friendly, attentive staff and charging less for it.
