About
After Engelbert's death in 1954, his son Joe Franz took over the
company and subsequently grew Franz Bakery into the largest
bakery in Oregon. Jerry Foster worked at Franz for 41 years and
fondly remembers working in the era of Joe Franz. "Several times
a week Joe Franz would walk through the production area, greet
us all and check things out," recalled Foster. "He really
understood the production side of the bakery, valued his
employees and made sure Franz produced quality products."
By 1975, Joe Franz knew that it was time to find a successor. He
hired Bob Albers, an experienced baking industry professional,
as vice president and general manager. The team worked
together for more than a decade, successfully building on Franz'
reputation for quality and expanding the company into one of
the largest bakeries on the West Coast.
